Knife Sharpening

We provide two types of knife sharpening at our locations.

Old-fashioned hand sharpening by Mark, who’s been sharpening knives in the Bay Area for more than 30 years and for us for over 20. He accepts knives at our Palo Alto and San Mateo locations – contact the store closest to you for current pricing and pick-up and drop-off times.

We also have the state-of-the-art Resharp knife sharpening machine in all of our stores. Resharp is a local Palo Alto startup that partnered with industry leaders and Stanford engineers to create the first-ever on-demand professional knife sharpening machine.

Learn about OUR TEAM

Hassett has Resharp-trained associates at each of our locations and they will quickly sharpen your knives in 90 seconds or less for just $6.99 per knife.

As Resharp says, “We didn’t invent knife sharpening, we reinvented it. Resharp gets your knives factory sharp – without the factory.” The Resharp machine restores knives to a factory edge while removing a minimal amount of material with a patented grinding system.

FREQUENTLY ASKED Knife Sharpening QUESTIONS

We often get questions about knife sharpening. Ever tried to cut a tomato with a dull knife? We thought so. Bring your knives in and we’ll get sharp again.

We’ve answered our most frequently asked questions below, but you can always call or text your local store anytime, and we’ll help you figure out exactly what you need.

Can you sharpen knives?

Yes, our stores feature the automated Resharp knife sharpening system, originally developed in Palo Alto and field tested from our store.

We are also lucky to have 30-year-hand-sharpening veteran, Mark, to sharpen just about any blade you can bring him.

Do you sharpen blades other than kitchen knives?

Yes, we do. Please contact us and ask specifically about your particular blade, but our hand sharpener, Mark, can work on most of the following blades:

  • loppers and clippers
  • scissors, shears and paper cutters
  • trimmers
  • axes and hatchets
  • machetes
  • chisels
  • planer and clipper blades
  • hand and circular saws
What knives does the ReSharp machine sharpen?

There are some types of knives the machine can’t accomodate, but it can sharpen most stanard kitchen knives.
